Location: Remote with a choice of Westmorland and Furness Council office building as a work base.  It will be necessary to travel to attend independent Review Panels in person throughout Westmorland and Furness.

Contract Type: Temporary for 12 months

Who we are looking for… 

As a Legal Assistant in the Children Education and Adults team (Legal Department) you will work with supervision on legal casework, to support the clerk for independent review panel hearings and school admission appeal hearings.  You will be providing critical support to the school organisation and school admission teams to ensure effective service delivery of all independent review and school admission appeal panels.  The post holder will work as directed by the Lead Lawyer (education). 

The Legal Assistant also provides support to the lawyers across all teams in the legal department by assisting in research and preparation of advice, preparing documents and evidence for use in court/tribunal, providing essential document processing and bundling for cases before the court or tribunal. Legal assistants are entrusted with case management responsibilities. They organise and manage case files, ensuring that all documents, evidence, and correspondence are properly recorded and readily accessible. 

You will benefit from the overall supervision from the experienced Seniors and Lead Lawyers in the team.  

We are looking for someone with NVQ Level 2 or 3, or equivalent experience or knowledge in the relevant work area.  Sufficient knowledge and experience of legal practice and procedures together with strong workload organisation and time management skills.
