Job Description:

Senior Legal Officer (Childcare)

Doncaster (Local Authority role)

Initial 3-6 month contract

Hourly rate negotiable

 

Hybrid working

Advocacy is needed so attendance at our local court centres in Doncaster and Sheffield is essential with the ability to attend court at relatively short notice if needed.

37 hours is preferable given the caseload and advocacy requirements – compressed hours would be considered.

 

  1. To actively manage a case load of care proceedings and pre proceedings PLO cases which will include written and oral advice, drafting, negotiation and advocacy skills;
  2. To represent the Council in complex, high profile cases, where authorised to do so.
  3. To instruct counsel, where authorised to do so;
  4. To provide mentoring support and advice to the Legal Officers and Legal Assistants;
  5. To attend legal planning, strategy discussions and other safeguarding meetings as and when required;
  6. To provide legal advice to relevant Council internal panels and Boards;
  7. To provide in hours office duty to the social care teams;
  8. To provide out of hours legal advice and assistance to the social care teams and Emergency Social Services Team (ESST) in accordance with the Council’s requirements, subject to the legal team’s out of hours team rota;
  9. To deliver training to legal and social care staff when required to do so;
  10. To provide support and advice to the Team Manager and Head of Child Care Legal Services in the delivery of the legal services delivery plan
