This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned local government lawyer to step into a senior strategic role at the heart of a transforming authority.

As our lead legal adviser, you'll guide governance, compliance, constitutional matters, and complex advisory work across a diverse caseload, including local government law, contracts and procurement, planning, regulatory services, employment, litigation, and information governance. Your expertise will ensure our decisions are robust, risk-managed, and aligned with best practice.

As Deputy Monitoring Officer, you will support the Monitoring Officer on ethical governance and member conduct, helping uphold the integrity of our democratic processes.

With Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution reshaping the landscape across Hampshire, this role offers a unique chance to influence future governance structures, support organisational redesign, and advise on emerging national policy. It’s a rare opportunity to strengthen your leadership impact and shape the legal foundations of a future unitary model.

We’re seeking a confident, inspiring leader who brings sound judgement, political awareness, and clear, solutions-focused advice in a fast-changing environment.

In return, we offer hybrid working, generous leave and flexi-time, professional development, and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. More about our values and benefits is available on our website.
