The role is within a large in-house litigation team in a London Local Authority. The purpose of the role is to provide advice and litigation services to the council, its departments and officers. The post holder will have conduct of their own case load which they will be expected to progress with minimal supervision though work collaboratively with the team and managers. The post holder must also be able to:
- organise and manage a complex and challenging caseload, critically analyse information and provide succinct, accurate written and oral advice.
- Effectively use electronic case management systems
- Work to tight deadlines.
- Assess and manage risk effectively, using sound professional judgement.
- Research and quickly become proficient in unfamiliar areas of law.
The work involves the conduct of varied and complex litigation at all levels of court and first and upper tier tribunal, which may involve any of the Council’s directorates or the Coroner’s Office. The work includes (but is not limited to); commercial property litigation, contract disputes, injunctions, judicial review, complex debt litigation, inquests, some domestic long leasehold disputes and miscellaneous other general litigation.
