Job Description:

Locum Procurement & Contracts Lawyer – 30 Hours per Week – Outside IR35 – Local Authority

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are currently supporting a Local Authority who are seeking an experienced Procurement & Contracts Lawyer to assist with the implementation of the Procurement Act 2023 and support major commercial projects.

Role Overview:

  • Position: Locum Procurement & Contracts Lawyer

  • Location: Hybrid working – Office attendance negotiable

  • Hours: 30 hours per week (flexible pattern considered)

  • Rate: Competitive hourly rate – can be Outside IR35

  • Duration: Initial 3 months, with a strong possibility of extension

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal leadership on the roll-out and practical implementation of the Procurement Act 2023

  • Advise on and draft commercial contracts relating to major ongoing and upcoming projects

  • Work closely with procurement, legal and project teams to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risk

  • Support internal stakeholders with training and strategic legal advice around procurement reform

  • Ensure good governance and commercial value in all contractual arrangements

Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (or equivalent)

  • In-depth knowledge of public procurement law and commercial contracts

  • Experience advising on complex or high-value public sector projects

  • Familiarity with the evolving public procurement landscape and legislative reform

  • Local government experience is advantageous but not essential
