Job Description:

Locum Civil Litigation Lawyer – Hybrid Working – £55-£60 Umbrella – Wales

Venn Group’s specialist Public Sector Legal team is working with a Local Authority in Wales which is seeking to appoint a talented Locum Civil Litigation Lawyer to join their team for an initial term of 3 months, subject to likely extension thereafter.

The successful candidate will be a Qualified Lawyer (Solicitors, Barristers and highly experienced CILEX professionals) with recent local government experience in housing and civil litigation law.

Duties and responsibilities may include:
  • Advising the client department with respect to litigation, including judicial reviews.
  • Attending licensing committees, sub-committees and other groups and panels of the Council 
  • Providing general legal advice to Members of the Council and Officers of the Council 
  • Conducting litigation on behalf of the Council, being responsible for the care and conduct of such proceedings and acting as the Council’s advocate before Courts, inquiries, hearings and tribunals including contested hearing
  • Preparing matters and papers for any form of legal or quasi legal proceedings and undertaking any statutory or administrative task ordinarily required of Legal Services by the Council
  • Dealing with disputes and complaints.
  • Assisting in the provision of a comprehensive legal service to the Council.
  • Supporting the work of senior staff and assisting the work of junior staff on legal issues
An hourly rate of £55-£60 per hour Umbrella is offered for this position dependent on experience. This is a hybrid working position, and the successful candidate will be expected to attend court in South Wales as and when required.
