Prosecutions Solicitor – Local Council | East of England | Part-Time | 3-Month Rolling Contract | Fully Remote (One Day Court Attendance Per Week)

A local council in the East of England is seeking an experienced Prosecutions Solicitor to join their legal team on a part-time basis. This is a 3-month rolling contract offering a competitive rate and fully remote working, except for one day per week of court attendance.

Role Overview

This role is ideal for a qualified solicitor with experience in criminal and regulatory prosecutions, looking for a flexible part-time opportunity within local government. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload, provide legal advice, and represent the council in court proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct prosecutions for a range of regulatory matters, including environmental, trading standards, and licensing offences
  • Provide legal advice on enforcement actions and statutory compliance
  • Prepare case files, evidence, and witness statements for legal proceedings
  • Attend court once per week to represent the council in magistrates' and Crown Court hearings
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments and external agencies

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with experience in prosecutions
  • Strong knowledge of criminal procedure, local government law, and regulatory enforcement
  • Experience in case preparation, legal drafting, and advocacy
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently while working remotely
  • Prior experience in local government or regulatory bodies is desirable
