We are recruiting a Solicitor / Barrister (Adult Social Care) to work in Legal Services.

About Us
We work hard to make Newcastle a great place in which to live, work, and visit. As a unitary authority, we are responsible for providing all local government services within the city including social services, waste management, housing, and education. We are committed to making our residents’ lives happier and healthier.

You will be part of the diverse, talented, and resourceful teams that are striving to deliver our ambitions for our great city. If you are just as passionate and committed as us to making a difference to Newcastle and our people, join us and make a real difference.

Our colleagues are committed to our values of proud, fair, and ambitious which are at the centre of everything we do.

The Job
We are looking for an enthusiastic solicitor or barrister to join our busy Adult Social Care Legal Team based at the Civic Centre in Newcastle City Centre, with an element of working from home or remotely.

The Candidate
The primary focus of the post is to run a varied caseload of Court of Protection proceedings, but the successful candidate will also be required to provide effective legal advice in respect of community care legislation, mental capacity and deprivation of liberty, mental health legislation, and safeguarding vulnerable adults.
You will be expected to undertake a level of advocacy commensurate with your experience.

A working knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 is required.  Experience of working in a local authority would be advantageous, however, lawyers from private practice will also be considered as you would be working as part of an experienced and supportive team.
