£44,059 - £47,134 per annum

This is an opportunity to join our expanding Legal Service team. We are looking for a Solicitor experienced in commercial property matters to provide a comprehensive service to support the Legal Service Manager in the provision of legal advice to officers and members working towards the Council’s ambitions vison to improve the city.

We are looking for a commercially minded Solicitor or Barrister who will ideally have experience in commercial property matters and a knowledge of residential conveyancing would be desirable. Experience of Property work will include negotiation and drafting of commercial leases, licenses and sales of land. They will also have experience drafting clawback and overage provisions. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the challenges faced by a local authority in the management of the property portfolio and sales at best value and experience of advising on a wide range of property matters.

This work will be integral to the maintenance and development of the portfolio of properties owned by the Council and contributing to income generation. The work will involve contributing to the exciting, high profile, capital projects the Council is investing in and obtaining funding for. Experience of drafting and advising on commercial contracts and subsidy control would also be desirable.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister.
  • Have experience of local government law and how it affects the framework within which the public sector operates.
  • Have experience of advising members and providing general advice to officers as required on all aspects of Property Law.
  • Have a good understand of how local government projects are funded.
  • Be able to demonstrate good negotiating skills.
  • Be commercially minded.
