Job Description:

£68,514 - £77,598 per annum

In this role you will manage our small Legal Team to ensure the provision of high quality legal advice and support. You will deputise for the Associate Director Legal & Democratic Services who is the Chief Legal Officer and Monitoring Officer. You will also undertake the Council's criminal and civil litigation work, including preparation of court cases and attendance and representation at hearings and act as Legal Adviser to the Licensing Authority. The role includes desgination as Deputy Monitoring Officer. You will also be a member of our Corporate Management Team.

What we are looking for:
A qualified Solicitor or Barrister entitled to practice in England & Wales with at least 6 years relevant PQE. You will have significant post qualification experience in criminal and civil litigation and have experience of dealing with licensing matters. Advocacy experience in the county and magistrates’ court is essential. You will also have experience of managing and motivating staff within a legal service. Experience of Governance/Monitoring Officer duties would be ideal but is not essential. You will also have a broad knowledge of local government law and local government and its operation including knowledge of how local authorities organise and deliver services.
