Job Description:

We are currently recruiting for an associate within our Disease litigation team based predominantly out of the Liverpool office (applicants from other areas will be considered). The team undertakes a full range of industrial disease work, predominantly on behalf of large insurer clients as well as for some self-insured corporate clients.

Initially, you will be required to manage your own modest caseload of litigated noise induced hearing loss and asbestos-related injury claims, whilst supporting Partners and Principal Associates with their caseloads of more complex work. This is an opportunity to join a well-established and experienced team handling a variety of work working with all levels of fee earner.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of litigated NIHL, HAVS/WRULD and asbestos-related injury claims claims effectively, efficiently and with minimal supervision
  • Assisting the Partners and Principal Associates with their complex and high value caseloads
  • Draft full strategy reports and advices
  • Undertake legal research and investigations
  • Draft pleadings
  • Attend conferences, court and client meetings
  • Communicate with clients, counsel and other parties
  • Involvement in business development, client relationship management and profile-raising initiatives as well as alignment to relevant segment/sector groups
  • Complete client and internal MI procedures
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
  • Ensure relevant deadlines, quality measures, SLAs and KPIs are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About You
Ideally, you will have previous experience of NIHL, HAVS/WRULD and asbestos-related injury claims. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. It would be preferable but not essential for you to have/be:
  • A qualified Solicitor with over three years’ PQE or equivalent
  • Extensive litigation experience with proven technical ability and record of achievement
  • Ability to work to deadlines / targets, to prioritise and manage a caseload and deliver effective solutions
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative with a positive attitude
  • A commercial, solution-driven and client-focused approach
  • Strong legal and analytical skills with an eye for detail
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible approach and agile working
  • Excellent IT skill
  • Experience of previous involvement with business development activities
