Job Description:

£48,474 - £49,498 per annum

About this opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and successful candidate to join our organisation as a Lead Lawyer, directly supporting the Adults service. This is a fantastic career opportunity for those looking to progress in a role where you will lead and supervise, as well as manage a more complex and corporately significant caseload.

As a Lead Lawyer in the Adults legal team, you will handle your own caseload of Adult Social Care work which will include the preparation of cases before the Court of Protection (including advocacy before the Court), as well as the provision of legal advice and assistance across all levels of the local authority.

You will receive the support of more junior lawyers and legal officers whilst benefitting from overall supervision from the Senior Lawyer for the team. In addition, you will also work as business partner to one of the Council’s key teams to ensure the provision of the most appropriate and cost-effective management of that team’s work. You will also contribute to the management of the wider legal services and support the organisation in achieving and maintaining a high standard of corporate governance.

Excellent communicators, the ability to work in a high-pressure environment, and an open and honest approach to management, are all qualities we are looking for in our Lead Lawyers. Westmorland and Furness Council is a modern and supportive employer, and we have both the technology and the commitment to allow our employees to work flexibly and efficiently.

If you are looking for a new challenge, in a friendly, supportive, and professionally stimulating environment, then we want to hear from you.

The base for this role is flexible, though it is likely that you will be asked to work from South Lakeland House, Kendal on occasion.

Safer Recruitment

At Westmorland and Furness Council we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and expects all employees, volunteers, and the Externally Provided Workforce (EPWs) to share this commitment.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

Westmorland and Furness Council is committed to improving the diversity of its workforce to better reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and work to promote an inclusive, supportive culture that values and celebrates our differences.

As a Disability Confident Employer, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.
