£49,498 - £53,588 per annum

Are you a qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive with experience of Adult Social Care law? Are you enthusiastic, flexible and enjoy teamwork?  If so, we have a  fantastic permanent opportunity for you, and in addition we can offer some fantastic benefits:

  • Salary from £49,498 to £53,588 per annum (national pay award negotiations ongoing)
  • Full-time – 37 hours a week
  • Hybrid / Flexible working
  • Pension scheme – 19% total contribution (you pay approximately 6.5%) and by joining the scheme this includes Death in service cover of 3x your salary
  • Annual leave – 26 days plus bank holidays increasing to 31 days after 5 years’ service plus bank holidays AND you can buy additional leave should you need to!

This exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal Services team at Sheffield City Council. The service is recruiting to help the Authority meet the exciting future for this green and vibrant city.  

The team operates in a fast-paced environment, dealing with the full range of adult social care law cases, including matters relating to the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Court of Protection.

The successful candidate for the role will:

  • Be responsible for providing authoritative advice to the Councils Officers and Members, ensuring that decisions are lawful.
  • Manage their own caseload, which will include complex and interesting areas of law.

For the role, you would need to have:

  • Recognised Legal qualification (Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEX)
  • Understanding of legal case management systems and process knowledge
  • Technical knowledge in the specialist area of Commercial Law

The successful candidate will also manage the small but busy team of legal professionals. Experience of leading and continuing to develop flourishing teams would be ideal. The Senior Lawyer role is ideal for those wishing to deepen their expertise through dealing with more complex cases, and to develop their managerial and governance skills, and provide an ideal platform for those looking for a long term career at a senior level in Local Government. Whilst our Senior Lawyers are still case holders, their caseload is reduced to reflect their supervisory roles.
