Job Description:

£42,403 - £45,441 per annum

You will provide high quality legal advice and support across specific practice areas, ensuring compliance with relevant legislative requirements and the Council’s own policies.

You will be a qualified solicitor with a current practising certificate, ideally with post-qualification experience in your chosen role.

You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to manage a diverse and demanding caseload.

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Assist in the provision of a high quality professional legal service to the clients including training and advising other Officers.
  2. Provide legal advice and representation in adult social care and safeguarding including Court of Protection proceedings, Deprivation of Liberty, Care Act including Ordinary Residence and financial matters, mental health, personal welfare and property and affairs and judicial review in relation to adult social care.
  3. Attend and provide legal advice to meetings of Officers and Members or others including the Adult Safeguarding Board and advise on administrative and procedural matters generally and approve reports and minutes as required.
  4. Prepare court proceedings and represent the Council in the Court of Protection including contested hearings and in other courts and hearings as required.
  5. Liaise with the courts, solicitors and barristers, senior officers of the Council, elected Members and other relevant persons and bodies.
  6. Run own caseload and maintain matters in accordance with SRA requirements and standards and keep abreast of relevant legal and practice developments in adult social care.
  7. Assist other members of the team with their adult social care workload including less experienced staff and assist Legal Services generally if necessary.
  8. Respond to police and other disclosure enquiries.
  9. Represent the Head of Legal and Democratic Services in any committees, working groups or meetings to meet the needs of the service.
