Job Description:

Our market leading Local Government Practice seeks claims Defence Lawyer;

We are looking for a Solicitor to join our claims team in Leicester or Birmingham. We offer flexible work patterns.

Acting on behalf of various local authorities and their insurers, your primary role will be to manage your own caseload, and assist senior fee earners on their cases. Your caseload will include an interesting mix or pre litigated and litigated claims including Highways Law, Occupiers Liability Employers Liability, and Housing disrepair.

You will have the opportunity to upskill and assist on data breach claims, human rights and equality act, subsidence and flooding cases.

You work will include:
  • Draft and perform legal research, investigations etc
  • Draft pleadings, witness statements and prepare cases for trial
  • Attend at conferences and Court
  • Communicate with clients, Counsel and various other parties
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
  • Ensure relevant deadlines, quality measures and KIPS are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • Working as part of a team
  • Supporting the team’s business development activities
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About You
You will have previous claims handling experience and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work.

As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have/be:
  • NQ to 2 years PQE
  • Preferably experience of defending litigated claims but candidates who have Claimant litigation experience will also considered
  • Excellent knowledge of the CPR and litigation
  • Ability to influence a broad range of people including key decision-makers
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Knowledge of CPR procedure with proven technical ability.
  • Flexible approach to work and a willingness to travel
