Job Description:

Our national Large Loss team provides national market leading legal service dealing with claims involving injuries of the utmost severity and complex technical insurance work. Weightmans’ Large Loss team handles claims primarily reserved over £350,000, representing in excess of £800 million of client reserves. Typical cases involve brain, spinal and amputation injuries and also substantial dependency fatality claims.

Your primary role will be to provide assistance to a Partner and Principal Associate in our London office.

As a Paralegal, you will be provided with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of high value catastrophic personal injury cases for a number of Insurers. Your key duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting fee earners with various tasks including general case management, legal research, reviews of records, preparation for court hearings etc
  • A capability to run a multi-track caseload independently (under supervision) as required
  • Assisting with the instruction of Counsel and experts
  • Responding promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision
  • Enabling compliance with client service level agreements
  • Achieving set financial and chargeable targets
Supporting the team’s business development activities This list is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role. As a Paralegal you will also ensure that you comply with the relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures, and consistently work in accordance with our values.

About You
You will have had at least 12 months' experience as a Paralegal working in the multi-track/large loss arena with experience in motor work be preferable but not essential.

As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have:
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration
  • An ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • An ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
  • An ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative
  • Knowledge of CPR procedure with proven technical ability.
