Locum Employment Lawyer – Full Time – Hybrid Working – South East based Local Authority

Venn Group's specialist Public Sector Legal team are currently recruiting for an experienced Locum Employment Lawyer to join a Local Authority on an interim basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Employment Lawyer to undertake a senior role within a busy public sector legal team, managing a varied caseload while providing expert advice, supervision and support across the wider service.

Role Details:
Position: Locum Employment Lawyer
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working
Duration: Initial interim contract, with potential for extension
Rate: £55-£60 Umbrella depending on experience
Duties may include:

• Managing a full and varied employment law caseload with minimal supervision
• Providing expert legal advice to senior officers, Members and internal client departments
• Handling complex and higher-risk employment matters
• Undertaking and managing advocacy where required
• Supervising and supporting junior members of the legal team
• Providing leadership, direction and technical guidance within the employment function
• Contributing to the wider management and development of Legal Services
• Supporting training and development of staff on relevant legal and emerging issues
• Advising on contentious and non-contentious employment matters
• Working collaboratively with senior stakeholders and external professionals
• Contributing to service improvement, policy development and efficient delivery of legal support

Candidate Requirements:

• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister eligible to practise in England and Wales
• Strong Employment Law experience
• Significant experience managing a complex and varied legal caseload
• Ability to provide clear, authoritative advice to senior stakeholders
• Experience supervising, mentoring or supporting junior legal staff
• Strong advocacy skills or demonstrable aptitude for advocacy
• Previous Local Government or wider Public Sector experience is highly desirable
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgement
• Strong negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills
