Locum Housing Disrepair Lawyer – Full Time – Initial 3 Months – South-East based Local Authority

Venn Group's specialist Public Sector Legal team are currently recruiting for an experienced Locum Housing Disrepair Lawyer to join a Local Authority on an interim basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing litigator to manage a high-volume disrepair caseload and provide practical legal advice across a range of housing-related matters.

Role Details:
Position: Locum Housing Disrepair Lawyer
Working Arrangement: Full Time, with office flexible attendance 
Duration: Initial 3 months, with potential for extension
Rate: £55 per hour Umbrella, dependent on experience

Duties may include:

• Managing a high-volume caseload of housing disrepair claims
• Providing legal advice and guidance to officers, senior stakeholders and client departments
• Negotiating settlements and progressing matters efficiently
• Representing the authority at court hearings, including directions and allocation hearings
• Instructing Counsel where required
• Drafting pleadings, agreements and other legal documentation
• Working closely with surveyors, contractors and internal teams to resolve disrepair matters
• Advising on legal and procedural developments in housing law
• Supporting the development and delivery of the wider legal service
• Maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Assisting with the supervision and development of junior legal staff where required
• Ensuring matters are progressed in accordance with relevant legal, regulatory and procedural requirements

Candidate Requirements:

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with strong housing litigation experience
• Significant experience handling housing disrepair matters
• Strong litigation and case management skills
• Experience drafting pleadings and other contentious legal documentation
• Advocacy experience and confidence representing clients at court
• Previous Local Authority or wider Public Sector experience is highly desirable
• Strong negotiation and settlement skills
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to work collaboratively with technical and operational teams
