Interim Principal Property Lawyer – Midlands – Initial 3-6 Months+ – Up to £75 per hour Umbrella Venn Group’s specialist legal team are currently working with a Midlands based Council to recruit an
Interim Principal Property Lawyer. The successful candidate will require a background managing a team in a Local Government setting. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a senior strategic interim role within a forward-thinking Local Authority, combining high-level legal advice, operational leadership and service management.
The Role:Working Arrangement: Full Time, ideally hybrid working however remote working would be considered
Duration: Initial 3-6 months with likely extension thereafter
Rate: Up to £75 per hour Umbrella
Role Responsibilities:- Providing advice relating to property litigation, leases, regeneration project work, property transactions including planning, Right to Buy, CPO’s developer work, highways, and development work (including but not limited to development agreements) as appropriate and any other work areas in legal as per the business needs of legal.
- Providing guidance on all aspects of project development ensuring legal compliance, managing risk, and protecting the Council’s interest.
- Assisting in the management of the Legal and Assurance Services including taking a leading role in Performance Management and Best Value including the establishment and maintenance of Service Standard Framework (SSF) agreements with client services both internal and external.
- Leading on finance and budget management for the property and regeneration team including continued development of SSF framework agreements with client services to ensure appropriate financial provision for legal support for strategic projects
- Identifying legal risks associated with property and regeneration projects and propose strategies to mitigate them effectively and advise on compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience in Property law
- Proven experience managing legal teams within a Local Authority legal service is essential, including responsibility for performance, development and operational delivery
- Ability to oversee a Property legal function, with an understanding of Local Government property work
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience advising senior Officers, Members and corporate leadership teams
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment whilst managing competing priorities
