Locum Principal Lawyer & Data Protection Officer – Full Time – Up to £57.50 per hour umbrella – ASAP Start – Initial 3+ Months
 
Venn Group's specialist legal team is currently recruiting for an experienced Locum Principal Lawyer & Data Protection Officer to join a well-regarded Local Authority on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a strategic leadership role, managing complex Information Governance matters while leading a dedicated team.
 
The Role:
Position: Locum Principal Lawyer & Data Protection Officer
Working Arrangement: Full Time, Hybrid working (weekly office attendance preferred, but not essential)
Duration: Initial 3+ months with the likelihood of extension
Rate: Up to £57.50 per hour umbrella
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Managing a complex caseload of Information Governance matters, including Freedom of Information Requests (FOIA), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests and Subject Access Requests (SARs)
• Completing and advising on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
• Providing expert legal advice on complex data protection breaches and UK GDPR compliance
• Acting as the Council's Data Protection Officer, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
• Managing and supporting the wider Information Governance team

 
Requirements:

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive
• Significant experience advising on Information Governance and Data Protection matters within a Local Authority
• Strong knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, FOIA and EIR
• Previous experience managing complex data protection matters and leading or supervising a team
• Ability to work independently while providing strategic advice to senior stakeholders
