3-6 Months+ - Full Time - Up to £65 per hour Umbrella - Locum Childcare Solicitor/Barrister - Court Advocacy & Flexible Working - Southeast England
 
Venn Group's specialist legal team is working with a Local Authority in the Southeast of England to recruit a Locum Childcare Solicitor or Barrister for an initial 3-month assignment, with a strong possibility of extension.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for a childcare Solicitor or Barrister who enjoys advocacy and court work but is also seeking the flexibility of a predominantly remote position. You will play a key role supporting the team in court, while benefiting from minimal office attendance and a small, manageable caseload.
 
The Opportunity

• Initial 3-to-6-month contract with a very strong likelihood of extension
• Up to £65 per hour Umbrella
• Predominantly remote working
• Court attendance required with a maximum of 2-3 times per week
• No regular office attendance required following induction
• You will manage a small caseload of 2-3 matters, with the primary focus being advocacy on behalf of the Council in Family Courts across Milton Keynes and High Wycombe.

 
Duties will include:

• Conducting advocacy at case management hearings
• Attending final and contested hearings where required
• Representing the Council at Family Court proceedings
• Providing specialist advice on Childcare Law and Public Law litigation
• Advising client departments on complex Childcare Law matters
• Working closely with legal and social care colleagues to safeguard children and support effective outcomes

 
Importantly, whilst advocacy is a key element of the role, you will not be required to undertake lengthy multi-day hearings.
 
About You
The ideal candidate will:

• Be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with substantial Childcare Law experience
• Have previous Local Authority experience
• Enjoy advocacy and be confident representing clients in Family Court proceedings
• Be able to work independently while remaining a collaborative member of the wider legal team
• Be available to attend court when required

 
This position would particularly suit a childcare lawyer who enjoys being in court and advocating on behalf of clients but is looking for a role that offers genuine flexibility and minimal office attendance.
