At Solihull Council, we are proud of our reputation for delivering high‑quality, resident‑focused services built on strong governance, integrity and accountability. We are now looking for an exceptional Legal Services Manager to lead and develop our in‑house legal team, ensuring we continue to provide a responsive, cost‑effective and solution‑focused service.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and politically astute senior legal professional to play a pivotal role in supporting the Council’s priorities and enabling robust, transparent decision‑making.

Working closely with the Solicitor to the Council & Monitoring Officer, you will provide authoritative legal advice to Members, senior leaders and committees, helping to shape and guide the organisation through complex and sensitive matters.
As our Legal Services Manager, you will:
  • Lead, inspire and support a high‑performing team of legal professionals
  • Ensure the delivery of a comprehensive, high‑quality legal service across all areas of the Council’s work
  • Oversee service planning, performance management and quality assurance standards
  • Procure and manage external legal providers where appropriate

  • Represent the Council at internal and external meetings, including Full Council, Cabinet and Scrutiny
  • Support the delivery of elections and company secretarial functions for the Council’s wholly‑owned companies
You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister (or equivalent), with substantial post‑qualification experience advising senior leaders within a local government or politically restricted setting.

You will bring excellent judgement, strong analytical skills, and exceptional written and verbal communication.

We also offer
  • A range of flexible working options, including hybrid working and a flex‑time scheme
  • Generous annual leave, with the option to purchase up to 10 additional days per year
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme – a free, confidential 24‑hour advice and support service
  • Family and carer‑friendly policies
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • A range of employee benefits, including staff discounts, subsidised travel passes and the Cycle 2 Work Scheme.
You may, on occasion, be required to attend out of hours council meetings.
