Job Description:

Solicitor – Contracts and Procurement

Westminster (Local Authority role)

Initial 3-6 month contract

Rate: Umbrella, negotiable

 

36 hours per week, hybrid working

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide expert professional and technical legal advice on contracts, procurement law, Subsidy Control, governance, and related commercial matters.
  2. Advise Members and Officers on legal and procedural issues, including attendance at Council meetings and committees (which may be outside standard hours).
  3. Manage a varied caseload of complex and routine legal cases with minimal supervision, ensuring timely and accurate advice.
  4. Draft and review reports for Cabinet, Committees, and Sub-Committees, and attend meetings as required.
  5. Negotiate advantageous terms with external parties and liaise with government departments, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  6. Monitor legislative changes, including the Procurement Act 2023, and implement necessary updates.
  7. Maintain proper records, meet chargeable hours targets, and ensure compliance with LEXCEL standards.
  8. Support team development, quality management initiatives, and continuous improvement

 

 

What we're looking for:

  • Able to hit the ground running from day 1 so understanding of the public procurement regime (both PCR2015 and PA2023) is essential.
  • Knowledge of local government governance structure
  • Able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Able to communicate effectively in plain English without legal jargon both orally and in writing
  • A good team player who is flexible and approachable
