Locum Contracts and Procurement Solicitor – London Local Authority – Hybrid – Full Time
Venn Group is partnering with a progressive and commercially minded London Borough in their search for an Interim Contracts and Procurement Solicitor on a locum basis, offering up to £475 per day (umbrella) depending on experience.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing in-house legal team providing strategic and solutions-focused advice across a wide range of public procurement and commercial matters. The postholder will play a key role in supporting major projects and ensuring robust governance and compliance throughout the procurement lifecycle.

Job Title: Locum Contracts and Procurement Solicitor
Daily Rate: Up to £475 per day (umbrella), depending on experience
Length of Contract: Initial 3 month term with strong potential for extension
Working Pattern: Full time
Location: London
Office Attendance: Two days per week (non-negotiable)
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
The appointed Solicitor will:

• Provide strategic legal advice on complex procurement matters and project delivery
• Manage risk across a portfolio of commercial and contract activities
• Undertake horizon scanning to anticipate regulatory and market developments affecting procurement
• Draft and advise on responses to procurement challenges, handling disputes in-house and reducing reliance on external counsel
• Advise client departments on contract drafting, interpretation, and negotiation, ensuring compliance with public procurement legislation and council governance frameworks

 
Preferred Experience:

• Qualified Solicitor with a current Practising Certificate
• Strong background in public sector procurement law, ideally within a local government setting
• Proven experience advising on complex contracts and frameworks across varied service areas
• Sound understanding of risk management and proactive legal support to senior stakeholders
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
