Job Title: Locum Education Lawyer
Employer Type: Local Authority
Location: Greater London
In Office Demand: Hybrid; primarily remote with 1 day/week in office
Hours: Full-time
Contract length: 12 month initial with likely extension
Budget: Negotiable for the experience (hourly)
Key Responsibilities:
- Advising local authorities or academy trusts on the legal process for closing a school
- Ensuring statutory consultation and public notice requirements are followed
- Addressing school site or land use issues
- Advising on academy rebrokerage or mergers
- Handling Department for Education (DfE) compliance
Essential Criteria:
- Experience in education law involving school closures
- Basic employment law knowledge, with ability to draft settlement agreements using templates or PLC
- Ability to work independently and adapt to new legal challenges
- Strong communication and liaison skills for working with internal teams
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales
