Job Title: Locum Education Lawyer
Employer Type: Local Authority
Location: Greater London
In Office Demand: Hybrid; primarily remote with 1 day/week in office
Hours: Full-time
Contract length: 12 month initial with likely extension
Budget: Negotiable for the experience (hourly)

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Advising local authorities or academy trusts on the legal process for closing a school
• Ensuring statutory consultation and public notice requirements are followed
• Addressing school site or land use issues
• Advising on academy rebrokerage or mergers
• Handling Department for Education (DfE) compliance

 

Essential Criteria:

• Experience in education law involving school closures
• Basic employment law knowledge, with ability to draft settlement agreements using templates or PLC
• Ability to work independently and adapt to new legal challenges
• Strong communication and liaison skills for working with internal teams 
• Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales
