Position: Locum Senior Litigation Lawyer
Organisation: Local Authority based in the South East of England
Duration: 3 months with the option for an extension
Working Pattern: Full-time
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working – 1 day per week office attendance
Hourly Rate: Up to £55 per hour (dependent on experience)
 
Venn Group’s specialist public sector legal team is working with a Local Authority in the South East of England seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Lawyer to join their team on a locum basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a high-profile legal department and handle a broad range of complex litigation matters.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Managing Litigation Cases: Handle a variety of complex and high-risk disputes, overseeing both the initiation and defence of legal proceedings on behalf of the Council.
• Court Representation: Act as an advocate in legal hearings, presenting cases effectively and ensuring the Council’s interests are robustly defended.
• Committee & Legal Advisory Work: Attend Council meetings, providing expert legal guidance to decision-makers on a range of contentious matters.
• Strategic Legal Support: Offer well-reasoned legal advice to senior officers, statutory directors, and elected members, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
• Regulatory & Civil Enforcement: Oversee legal proceedings related to licensing, regulatory enforcement, and general civil litigation, ensuring lawful and effective resolutions.

 
Ideal Candidate:

• A qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEx) with strong expertise in civil litigation and regulatory law.
• Proven experience handling local government litigation, including licensing and regulatory matters.
• Excellent advocacy skills, with experience representing clients in court.
• Strong ability to provide clear and concise legal advice to senior stakeholders.

 
While experience in all areas is desirable, candidates with transferable skills and a willingness to develop in local government law are encouraged to apply.
