Job Description:

Locum Contracts and Procurement Lawyer – East of England Council – Hybrid Working – Part-Time – Up to £60 per hour Umbrella



Start Date: Mid to Late February
Duration: 6 months (potential for extension)
Location: Hybrid – office presence required at least once per month
Hours: Part-time, 2–3 days per week (subject to workload)
Rate: Up to £60 per hour Umbrella



Venn Group is pleased to be working with a forward-thinking East of England based Council to recruit an experienced Contracts and Procurement Lawyer for a key part-time position.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take the lead on contract and procurement law matters within the organisation, providing expert legal advice while mentoring and supporting a Solicitor Apprentice as part of their development plan.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Advising on procurement and contract law, including drafting and reviewing contracts.
  • Preparing and amending grant agreements and JCT contracts.
  • Advising on amendments to Contract Procedure Rules and commenting on reports.
  • Collaborating with the Procurement Officer and service leads to implement best practices.
  • Developing templates to promote consistent, high-quality contract management across the Council.

     
Requirements:
  • Significant experience in procurement and contract law, with the ability to operate independently.
  • A collaborative and supportive approach, particularly with training and mentoring.
  • Strong ICT skills, with proficiency in IKEN Cloud and Mod.Gov systems preferred.
  • Public sector or local authority experience is desirable but not essential.
