Senior Governance Lawyer

Westmorland & Furness Council (Remote)

Initial 3-6 month contract

Rate: £55 - £70 per hour Umbrella

Remote working

Qualified solicitor or someone with equivalent experience.

Ideally 3 days a week or more.

Previous local authority experience is critical for this role.

Full caseload, complex matters, 5 years post-qualification experience+ or equivalent experience.

Must be able to hit the ground running, working independently on a caseload of 25+ matters with limited supervision.

Must have awareness and experience of working in local authority and governance requirements.

Varied caseload of governance matters, including:

• Advising on the council’s constitution, local government law, and practice.
• Providing advice to officers on officer decision records and officer key decision records.
• Reviewing and advising on committee, cabinet, and council reports in accordance with the council’s constitution, law, and practice.
