Job Description:

We are looking for an employment partner to join our growing employment practice. You will be an Employment specialist with at least 8 years PQE or equivalent in mainly Respondent client work, preferably in the public sector or related sectors.

You will have experienced and be confident in handing both contentious and non-contentious employment work. You will be able to evidence a transferable Respondent client base and be experienced in marketing and networking.

Our office is within easy access of Kings Cross and Farringdon mainline stations and Chancery Lane tube.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertake fee earning work within the Employment department
  • Maintain financial control and maintaining cash flow through billing procedures, achieving cash collection targets and supporting more junior team members to achieve their own
  • Play a leading role in growing the employment team, winning work for the team through drafting tenders, marketing, business development, and building cross referrals both within and outside of the firm.
  • Supervise, support, develop and appropriately delegate to more junior grade solicitors, trainee solicitors and interns within department
  • Management of fee earning and support staff within the department, conducting appraisals and regular 121s.
  • Undertake regular reviews of business development in conjunction with the partnership
  • Promote the firm and assist in marketing activity
  • Compliance with quality control procedures for all matters within his/her control
  • Lead by example in following the firm’s processes and procedures
  • Comply with the Solicitors Accounts Rules and the Rules on the Professional Conduct of Solicitors
  • To comply with the relevant training requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and to assist with in-house training as may be required
  • Assist with cover for other partners within the Employment department during leave or absence
  • To be familiar with, adhere to and promote the firm’s diversity and inclusion policy

About you

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified solicitor or recognised foreign equivalent
  • Experienced employment law specialist to include TUPE, Employment Tribunals, employment policies and procedures, managing redundancies, equal pay and holiday pay, data protection, settlement agreements.
  • Ability to win new business and build an employment law practice
  • Strong people management experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the ‘Solicitors Regulation Authority Code of Conduct’ and other regulatory requirements

Desirable

  • Knowledge of and experience in Pensions law
  • Experience of public and/or local authority sector
  • Knowledge and experience in business immigration
  • Knowledge and experience in health and safety
  • Strong academic attainment 2.1 Degree or equivalent
  • Advocacy experience
