£57,929 - £62,059 per annum
This is a newly created role in which you’ll lead on the provision of legal advice for the Waste Service Re-Procurement Programme, aimed at replacing the current £300 million PFI contract for waste services. You’ll provide high-quality, specialist legal advice and support to the Council on complex, high-profile, strategic commercial projects, requiring expertise in contract law, construction, procurement, subsidy control, governance, and public law matters.
Initially, the role is expected to be split 50% on the Programme and 50% on other strategic commercial projects, but this may change. The role may become fully focused on the Programme until it is completed in 2028, after which it could revert to advising on the Council’s key strategic commercial priorities at that time.
You’ll work closely with, whilst also contract managing, the external legal advisors appointed to the Programme. It is anticipated that you will matrix-manage colleagues in the Commercial & Contracts Team and other teams within Legal Services as required, ensuring a cohesive, multidisciplinary legal service for larger projects. This will include providing leadership and direction to any staff temporarily assigned to support the Programme.
As a highly skilled qualified lawyer, you’ll have substantial experience advising on PFI or other complex insourcing/outsourcing processes, alongside recent significant experience in commercial and procurement law practice at an advanced level. You will also have extensive experience managing a caseload of high-profile and complex commercial legal matters. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will enable you to adapt your communication to suit a broad range of audiences. Pragmatic in your advice, you’ll work effectively with clients to find solutions.
