Job Description:

Democratic Services Officer – Rolling Contract

Vivid are working with a local authority in the North-East who are looking to bring a Scrutiny Officer into their team on an interim basis for an initial 6-month contract.
You will be given the opportunity to work on a hybrid arrangement, for a locum rolling contract with a strong likelihood of extension

The Scrutiny Officer will play a vital role in supporting the local authority's scrutiny function, ensuring accountability and transparency in decision-making processes. This position involves conducting research, facilitating scrutiny reviews, and providing comprehensive support to elected members and committees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis on various issues affecting the local authority and community. Prepare detailed reports and presentations based on findings.

  • Support Committees: Assist in the organization and administration of scrutiny committee meetings, including preparing agendas, minutes, and reports. Ensure that all necessary documentation is accurate and accessible.

  • Engagement: Facilitate engagement with stakeholders, including residents, community groups, and external organizations, to gather input and feedback on scrutiny topics.

  • Policy Review: Monitor and review policies and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations to enhance service delivery.

  • Performance Monitoring: Assist in the development and implementation of performance indicators and frameworks to measure the effectiveness of local authority services.

  • Training and Development: Provide training and support to elected members on scrutiny processes and best practices, ensuring they are well-equipped to carry out their roles.

  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports on scrutiny activities and outcomes to senior management and elected officials, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
