About your new roleThe Regulatory Department is very diverse, offering a broad range of expert advice to organisations and healthcare professionals facing disciplinary action, criminal allegations and professional regulatory sanctions, as well as DPA requests and inquests. This is a unique opportunity to join our top-ranked team of medical defence lawyers providing a national service to healthcare professionals.
The role will primarily focus on assisting the Professional Discipline Team with the management of matters relating to doctors and dentists on behalf of their medical defence organisation, and private clients. With our diverse offering, inevitably there will be both the scope and need for our lawyers to be involved in work for clients outside of their core caseload
Main duties and responsibilitiesPrimary responsibility is to work with senior fee earners on their cases, undertaking tasks such as:-
- Managing a case load of professional discipline matters under supervision of a partner
- Drafting submissions to regulators
- instructing counsel and experts
- Liaising with institutional and lay clients
- Advocacy at inquest hearings and at the GMC
- Attending hearings with counsel
- Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
- Ensure relevant deadlines, quality measures and KPIs are adhered to
- Comply with relevant policies and procedures
- Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About YouYou will be a qualified solicitor, 3 to 15 years PQE. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have/be:
- Genuine and demonstrable interest in healthcare sector
- Strong communication skills
- Disciplined time management and organisational skillsCapacity to rigorously investigate and analyse evidence
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise
- Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Flexible approach
