Your new role

As the Senior Legal Specialist (Contracts and Public Procurement) you will provide a professional Legal service with the highest standards of compliance, advice as well as supporting and resolving complex requests and cases. Reporting to the Head of Legal Services your responsibilities will include leading a legal team of specialists, legal assistants and trainees, initiating, managing and delivering organisational changes and legal developments across the council in line with the corporate strategy. You will have the opportunity to advise on some really exciting projects, including the One Horton Heath Programme and a range of other major construction contracts, matters including contracts for goods and services, public procurement, company law and governance.

What you will need to succeed

  • Qualified Lawyer or Barrister
  • Membership of Law Society/Bar
  • Extensive working knowledge of legal working practices and methodologies
  • Solid understanding of statutory and regulatory compliance
  • Experience of working in the field of contracts and public procurement
  • Proven ability to undertake complex legal cases and provide expert advice on a range of matters within local government  
  • Strong communicator, open, perceptive and able to lead others
  • Passionate about the role, local government and working in a people led culture
